Let the Adventure Begin

About Me

Las Vegas, NV, United States
This is my 2008 grand adventure...riding a bicycle with 35 international bikers across Europe, following the Danube River along the Orent Express route through eleven countries. The ride is 4000km over 50 days of which 39 are ride days with camping and 11 are rest days in hotels. Our tour group, TourdAfrique, provides a tour leader that provides directions and transposts our luggage, a mechanic, and a chef who promises gourmet local cuisines. We start out in Paris on June 1 and travel through France to Germany, where we pick up the Danube river. We then follow the Danube through Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. Then we ride cross country through Romania, Bulgaria, and finally Turkey, where we finish in Istanbul on July 20.

June 2 Day 20 Dodge City to Great Bend, KS

Finally a beautiful Kansas day with bright skys, light winds, moderate temps. Today the ride was just cruising across the prairie and taking in the wheat fields. Many of the fields were flooded and the streams were full from all the heavy rains. The time just flew by...88 miles of it.

We had a photo op at Kinsley, which is the geographical center of the US...two more days before we are half way from LA to Boston.

Everyone was in reasonable health this morning. Lisa had her allergies under control with medications, and Frank was doing better with his tooth ache. Everyone is getting stronger...and thinner.
Everyone is interested in talking to Sandra, this evening.

Stats: 88 miles, 18 mph avg, 400' climbing, 55 - 75 deg, 10 - 20 mph crossing winds, flat number 7.

6767Jim-
Sounds like you're doing great. We miss you on our Wednesday rides--I'm sure that when you're back, you'll be leading us out to the overlook. Take care. I've had 11 flats for the year so far. Try not to catch up with me....Dave

Dave,

I look forward to the 50 mile rides. I have had 7 flats and we are not quite half way there. I may upgrade to touring tires.
